In the words of Bob Ross, “Ever make a mistake in life? Let’s make them birds…yeah…they’re birds now.”
About two years ago, when I was starting to take my photography business seriously, I wanted to rent a high end lens. I asked for a model and who should volunteer but my own wedding photographer. From that moment on she has become a friend, a confidant and a solid business advisor and partner. This photo shoot is still to this day one of my favorites and, I believe, helped shape the person and photographer that I am today. When I took these, I had no idea how much it would change my life. I found my creative outlet and my escape from the technical world that I live in.
My original edits, I will not deny, were off. Way off. They have bugged me consistently until I decided that I needed to do something about it. I must not have been too far off course 2 years ago as a freshman photographer because when I strip these down to black and white, to their essence, I don’t think they’re half bad. They’re nothing like the work I do today but they still speak to me. They’re dark, moody and grungy. I usually love light, airy and loving but HEY everyone has one of those days where you want to step outside of the box. So here I go….stepping out.
